United States: The US FDA has recently cleared a generic daily injectable for the GLP-1 medication for patients with Type 2 diabetes and ten years of age and older.

Affordable Treatment Option

Liraglutide injection, which is in shortage and is under the brand name Victoza, will be cheap for those people who require GLP-1, as reported by The Hills.

“Generic drugs provide additional treatment options which are generally more affordable for patients,” Dr. Iilun Murphy, the director of Generic Drugs in the FDA’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research, added.

The White House revealed that statistics have shown that out of the total population, 1 in every 10 people suffers from diabetes, and that is over 38 million.

FDA Commitment to Affordable Medications

“Today’s approval underscores the FDA’s continued commitment to advancing patient access to safe, effective, and high-quality generic drug products,” Murphy added.

Doctors have advised patients with a history of medullary thyroid carcinoma combined with multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome Type 2 against using the drug because of these effects, as reported by The Hills.

Daily vs. Weekly Injections

Daily shots have received better results, with weekly shots reported by some specialists as being more effective than daily shots according to CNN reports.
