United States: U.S. marriages have shown a post-pandemic surge, as evidenced by the number of 2.1 million exchanged in 2022.

The growth was 4% per year. On Friday, (CDC) the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced raw data on marriages without yet publishing 2017 data, based on which it can then be compared, as reported by The Associated Press.

Recovery Period

In the course of 2020, which was the first year after the beginning of the pandemic, specifically, there were 1.7 million U.S. weddings – the lowest number since 1963. The pandemic helped many people to review their lives, with the result of large-scale remarriages. However, in certain cases, restrictions on the movement of people and bans on large gatherings forced the cancellation of all marriage plans.

Marriages in 2021, however, did not quite recover what they were in galloping figures compared to the pre-pandemic years. The slight increase following the previous year’s rise was seen in 2022, and the overall marriage level went past the 2019 stats by a slight margin.

New York, the District of Columbia, and Hawaii state had the greatest rise in the number of marriages during 2021, notably followed by that in 2022. Besides Nevada, where there are lots of Las Vegas wedding chapels, Nevada still has the highest marriage rate among the states in the US, but as of 2021, it has slightly decreased.

Divorce Trends

The CDC released data showing a decrease in the number and pace of divorces in the US in 2022, which carries on a decent trend, as reported by The Associated Press.

In conclusion, the marriages are not just as before in the United States.

Changing Landscape

The data from 1900 says that the peak in weddings was in 1946, which was a time when the marriage rate was 16.4 marriages for every 1000 people. It hovered around 10 in the early 1980s, but then it embarked on a declining journey that lasted more than 30 years. In 2022 the marriage rate showed to be 6.2 per 1,000 population.
